Coleman is a livestock guardian who lived with goats for the first year or so of his life. When his owner sold his goats, he included Coleman in the sale. The buyer already had livestock guardians of his own, so he surrendered Coleman to us.

Coleman was adopted by a family with miniature horses and chickens. He lived there happily for 4 years, and then one day, he figured out how to breach the fence. The family had an invisible fence installed, and that kept Coleman at home for a while. But then he discovered that the shock was very brief, and he would take the shock in order to go on a walkabout. The family lives close to a busy road, and they worried that Coleman would get hit by a car, so they returned him to us. They really loved him and didn't want to give him up, but they were more concerned for his safety than anything else.

Back at Windsong Ranch, our 5' tall no-climb woven wire fencing has kept Coleman safely contained. He has spent time in a pasture that has a 4' tall no-climb cross fence, and he hasn't tried breaching that, so I'm beginning to think that maybe it was the specific fencing at his previous home that was the problem. They have lovely white board fencing (like the kind you see on many horse properties) that's backed by no-climb woven wire. I'm thinking maybe the horizontal boards acted sort of like steps to make it easy for Coleman to climb over. That's just speculation on my part, but it seems reasonable since he hasn't tried to breach the fence here.
