J.R. is not a typical Bluebonnet breed of dog. In fact, we’re not even sure which breed/s he might be, though his looks remind us of a cross between a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, and an Aussie. With those perky ears, maybe he has some Border Collie or Sheltie in his DNA?

J.R. was abandoned by his owner and at risk of being killed for no reason other than that. No one else was stepping up to help him, so we drove to Oklahoma to bring him to safety with us. J.R. Is a middle-aged dog, around 6 years old when we joined us. He has a little bit of arthritis, but he doesn't let that slow him down. We give him an NSAID daily, and that seems to keep him going without pain.

We have no clue what his owner's circumstances might have been that resulted in them abandoning J.R. at the vet's office, but our guess is that this dog was loved and well cared for his whole life.  J.R. has good manners in the house, and is happy to go into his crate when you are leaving the house, or at night. He seems to feel secure in the crate, but seems to be trustworthy if left to roam free in the house.

We think he would be content as an only dog, or with another dog with a calm temperament. J.R. does NOT like male Great Pyrenees, though he gets along just fine with a female Pyr in our pack. Perhaps at some point in his past, a male Pyr attacked J.R.? We have no clue why J.R. doesn't like them, but when he sees a big white male dog, J.R. goes on the offensive and starts growling. He doesn't do that with other male dogs, including one really handsome Pyr mix male whose coloring is similar to J.R.'s. We've included a photo of these two handsome boys. Having seen J.R share his room and play yard with other male dogs, we feel pretty sure that J.R.'s aversion is specific to big white male dogs. So as long as you don't have a male Pyr or Akbash dog, J.R. might like coming to live with you.

If J.R. looks like just the dog you need to complete your family, please fill out the application on our website .
