Lucy is the classic All American Girl -- her wholesome good looks are not too threatening to the other girls, and her athletic build looks healthy without making the boys too jealous of her muscles. I bet if she had been born human, she would play sand volleyball.

Lucy gets along well with all the other dogs in our pack, large and small, male and female. She doesn't get in the swimming pool on her own, but when we take her in with us, she really enjoys swimming. We think if she had a pool with easier steps, or maybe a lake, she would probably be in the water more frequently. She will join in a game of fetch, but gets bored easily and is more likely to just hold on to the toy rather than return it just so we can toss it again. Smart girl!

Lucy is a pretty girl with a sleek tuxedo coat, but we really have no idea what combination of breeds she might be. We've made our best guess based on a working knowledge of several breeds that are common in our area, plus photos and breed standards we've read for dozens of dogs, coupled with the likelihood of those breeds actually being found in our area. Comparing all of that to Lucy's looks and personality, we can still only guess that she's part Black Lab, maybe part Rat Terrier (standard size), and probably a little bit of several other breeds. The shape of her face is not quite as broad as a Rottweiler, but her personality reminds me a lot of a wonderfully sweet Rottweiler we loved for many years before she crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.

Lucy does not like being left alone, so will do best in a home where at least one person is home for most of the day or where she has another dog or two to keep her company. She has a high prey drive, so she can NOT go to a home with chickens or livestock. She is a good watchdog and if she's outside, she will sound the alert any time we have visitors. She is house-trained and prefers to sleep inside at night, but during the day, Lucy is equally happy inside the house or outside in our fenced yard. She really loves attention from her humans, but is not needy or demanding.
